Level Descriptions:

Beginner
Beginner classes are designed for those who have had little to no previous exposure to yoga, but are eager to learn and start experiencing the amazing benefits of a yoga practice. The beginner student needs slow-paced direction with lots of details so they can start to become familiar with basic yoga poses, body awareness, and use of the breath.

Level 1 - Experienced Beginner
Level 1 classes are designed for those who have had some exposure to yoga, and have had some practice with basic yoga poses and proper alignment. The experienced beginner student would like to explore their practice and begin to become more familiar with basic yoga poses and use of the breath, as well as begin to deepen the level of challenge in their practice.

Level 2 - Intermediate
Level 2 classes are designed for those who have a solid understanding of the basic yoga postures, and have begun to explore a wider variety of poses in their practice, including inversion and arm balancing poses. The intermediate student has become very familiar with the concept of connecting breath with movement.

All Levels
All Levels classes are suitable for experienced beginners, intermediate students, and everyone in between. These classes offer modifications so that you can customize your class to fit your specific needs and level of expertise.   These classes will likely not include inversions or arm balancing poses in their class format.
Mixed Levels
Mixed Levels classes are suitable for Level 1- Experienced Beginners and Level 2 - Intermediate students.  It is not suggested that New Beginner’s attend these classes.  Though these classes offer modifications so that you can customize your class to fit your specific needs and level of expertise, they are designed to be challenging and help students take their practice to the next level.   These classes will likely include inversions, backbends and arm balancing poses in their class format.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CLASS DESCRIPTION   TEACHER
> Flow Yoga, Power Flow Yoga, Slow Flow

This class varies from teacher to teacher, but holds to the basic tenants of yoga through each teacher. It is sometimes conducted in a slightly heated room depending on the teacher and sometimes with music, and the class format follows a Yang/Yin style (i.e. power meets relaxation). Flow Yoga is intended to connect movement with breath. This class will teach you to honor your body, breath, and awareness as you move from posture to posture. Learn through asana (postures), pranayama (breath) and dharana (focused attention) how to empower yourself mind, body & spirit. Be prepared to stretch, strengthen, sweat, surrender, balance, move, flow, breathe, dance, laugh, and relax. Classes are suitable for all levels, and modifications are given. This class will grow your practice in new and deep ways. Come with an open mind and be prepared for anything.

> Yoga As Therapy
Explore movement from a new perspective - understanding body physiology for deep healing and therapeutics. This class will educate you on proper body alignment, muscular function and how to use yoga poses to bring optimum health to repetitive movement issues/injuries. Sometimes props are used. This class is done in a slightly heated room with music, and is recommended for everyone to add to their regular yoga class week for balance and recovery. Michelle Stobart, Studio Director

> Yin + Restorative Yoga

This class is Michelle's take on Yin yoga with an added balance through Restorative Yoga. This class is a powerful practice that will target tendons, ligaments and fascia within the body, but is a gentle, non-vinyasa based practice. Each posture will be held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of muscles and connective tissues. Almost all the poses in this class will be on the floor. This class is sometimes done in a heated room with music. Sometimes props will be used.

> Hot yoga
Tuesdays (Primary 108 Style)
Thursdays (Slow Flow Style)

Hot Yoga is a series of yoga postures and breathing exercises designed to cleanse every part of the body and provide a complete mind/body workout. Heat plays a very important role in the benefits received from this practice. The room is heated, which warms and relaxes the entire body, promoting relaxation and the release of toxins. Practicing yoga in the heat leads to a deeper stretch and helps avoid injuries. All levels of students will benefit from postures that tone muscle, improve circulation, and strengthen the immune system. Meditation, chanting and pranayama may also be incorporated into the class. Drink lots of water prior to class, bring a small towel and an open mind and be prepared to sweat!

This quarter we are offering something new to the Hot Yoga Format. On Tuesdays, Michelle Stobart will teach a Primary 108 Hot Flow based on the Astanga Primary Series with a bit of cross-training in repetitions that concentrate on core, legs, arms or whatever the mood inspires. On Thursdays, slow it down a bit and look at a Slow Flow with Alex Jeannerette where she will concentrate on alignment based flow in a smooth, slow format. Amanda will be back with us this Spring, so keep your practice up to re-join her in the spring ready to go.

>Beginner Yoga

This class is designed for people who have never done the practice of yoga before, or are just beginning their exploration of the practice. In depth discussion of alignment, pose modifications and adjustments, yoga philosophy and breath awareness will be given during these classes. It is recommended that you attend this class for a while to understand yoga and vinyasa basics before moving into the other Flow or Hot Yoga classes. However, it is not a requirement.

>Intro to Astanga 1

Ashtanga I is an exploration of the modified primary series of sun salutations, standing postures, balances and seated postures. Developed by Pattabhi Jois , this age old practice will tone the entire body, increase flexibility and develop endurance while releasing stagnant energy. This class is for the reasonably fit beginner (with plenty of modifications) looking to come into an alive, balanced and empowered state of being.

> Hooping Basics

Come explore the power of the sacred circle in this new class combining adult-size hula hoops, yoga postures, and dance. We will start the class with meditative stretching using our hoops for balance and weight. Then, we will move into a cardio component of the class by hooping on and off the body. The hoops are designed to be bigger and slightly weighted, which makes the hoop go slower. So even if you haven't hooped since you were a kid, you should be able to pick it up again with these hoops! Exciting tricks and yoga poses will round this class out, making it a full body experience that will challenge and improve your coordination, strength, and flexibility. Hula hoops will be provided. Pre-registration required, space limited to five participants.
